June 2022 – Easter Seals Canada is pleased and grateful to announce that it has received a $700,000 donation from We Care (wecare-canada.org) at its recent virtual gala to help send children who are living with disabilities, to Easter Seals’ accessible and inclusive camps across Canada. We Care is one of Easter Seals’ largest long-term annual donor, with the relationship going back almost 40 years. This latest gift from We Care brings the total amount of funds We Care has raised for Easter Seals to a record-breaking $25.5M, which translates to 96,000 days of fun-filled and transformative experiences at camp for children across the country.
Each year since 1983, We Care and its network of Member Sponsors from the Foodservice and Hospitality Industry donate and organize myriad events across Canada, ranging from golfing to bowling and skiing – to help raise donations for Easter Seals. The highlight of these events each year is We Care Day, where We Care staff and employees from its Member Sponsors descend on one of Easter Seals’ many overnight camp facilities across the country to volunteer and have a day of fun, food, games and activities with campers. Each camper also gets to decorate a special and exclusive We Care bear of their own to take home as a souvenir of the day and their time at camp.
According to Easter Seals Canada’s President & CEO, Dave Starrett, “This year, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Easter Seals’ founding, we recognize that We Care has been a very special part of this journey since 1983. Over the years, the funds We Care has raised have helped send thousands of children and youth to our camps across the country, and helped create innumerable memories and friendships. They have helped young individuals living with disabilities gain leadership skills, learn, and grow.”
Today, the Easter Seals camp program is one of the largest and strongest in the nation – and, for a charity, one of the most robust in the world – all thanks to donors like We Care and its community of Member Sponsors. We thank the We Care community for staying by our side and helping us meet the challenges brought about by the pandemic in the last two years. And we thank you for being with us now, at this remarkable time in our history.” – Dave Starrett, President & CEO, Easter Seals Canada
