Stop, Drop and Fundraise
Throughout August to October, Canadians of all ages and abilities are dropping from buildings. Don’t panic – they’re Superheroes.
Courageous Canadians are putting on their best superhero costumes and bravest faces to participate in Easter Seals’ annual Drop Zone fundraising event. With the support of their family, friends and local donors, these Superheroes are rappelling down buildings from coast to coast to fundraise for Easter Seals Canada.
The proceeds from each event go towards their respective Easter Seals province’s services and programs that transform the lives of Canadians with disabilities and help them be #unstoppABLE.
“Drop Zone is an opportunity for supporters to showcase their commitment and for Easter Seals beneficiaries to showcase their capacity to rise to the challenge,“ remarks Dave Starrett, president and CEO of Easter Seals Canada.
For Michelle Mahoney, who was born with Arthrogryposis and has attended Easter Seals Camp Tidnish in Nova Scotia for nine years, 2017 will be her second year completing the Drop Zone challenge.
“It was one of the coolest things I have ever done,” expresses Mahoney in excitement for this year’s event. “It was exhilarating!”
Thrilling as Drop Zone already is, previous years have seen more excitement including proposals, birthdays, politicians and even the chance for employees to “throw” their bosses off of buildings.
Also partaking in the rappel are Drop Zone’s national sponsors.
As the event’s founding sponsor, CREIT lends its high-rise buildings to Drop Zone in select cities across the country. Since 2004, CREIT has raised over $15 million for Easter Seals and encourages its offices to participate in the drop.
Offices for Drop Zone’s national sponsors, Amway and CENTURY21, will also be joining the fun.
Luckily for Easter Seals supporters, a fear of heights does not have to stand in the way of becoming a Superhero.
Thanks to Drop Zone’s newest national sponsor, Breakaway Experiences, anyone who contributes the fundraising minimum for their city will be recognized for a chance to win a national grand prize package valued at $4,600 and various provincial prizes.
However, despite a fear of heights, many people still decide to take the plunge.
Even the most skeptical of Superheroes can feel safe in the hands of national sponsor Tacten Industrial. With 20 years of experience, Tacten’s crews have ensured the safety of Drop Zone events.
