REAL ESTATE WEBMASTERS HELPS SEND KIDS TO CAMP!December 2017 – On December 13, Real Estate Webmasters (REW) gave Easter Seals an early Holiday gift – a $21,000 donation through the CENTURY 21 Kids to Camp Program! The Kol Hope Foundation
The Kol Hope Foundation for Children is a Canadian charitable organization, the first of its kind in North America, that provides support to children born with Trisomy-related disabilities and chromosomal disorders.
Easter Seals Canada is proud to be a beneficiary of the Kol Hope Foundation for Children through the Kol Hope Fund at Easter Seals.
The Foundation is named after Kol, who was born with Trisomy 13, a fatal genetic syndrome. Expected to survive only 3 months, Kol was severely disabled and was unable walk or talk. But incredibly, Kol lived to the age of 14 before passing away on October 9, 2011. He left behind a profound legacy of love, charity and hope that serves as the inspiration behind the Kol Hope Foundation for Children.

Created in Kol’s memory, The Kol Hope Fund at Easter Seals provides life-changing summer camp experiences and assistive technology for kids living with disabilities, as well as respite care programs for families.

J.P. Bickell Foundation
Easter Seals Canada’s partnership with the National Alliance of Children & Youth (NACY) and Family Resource Program Canada (FRP), with their 500+ members, has uncovered a need for a comprehensive, engaging online directory of services and programs for parents with young children of all abilities, particularly first-time parents.
Getting our kids the treatment, support and/or resources they require as early as possible is critical to promoting their healthy development, optimizing the integration of individuals with emerging special needs with other children & youth, and helping young Ontarians reach their fullest possible potential – all core elements of Easter Seals’ mission and mandate.
The need for such a directory builds on the Make the First Five Count Program—a national initiative led by Easter Seals Canada. Through this robust and informational website, the program illuminates the critical importance of the first five years of a child’s development and the need to be aware of the developmental milestones through which a child progresses at each phase of development.
In 2016, The J.P. Bickell Foundation funded the creation of an online infrastructure to house a national Directory of Programs and Services for parents with young children of all abilities, and specifically, a comprehensive hub for Ontario at www.makethefirstfivecount.ca. The hub features service/program descriptions and location mapping by community/town/city, along with contact information for any further inquiry. Currently there is nothing like this in Ontario’s vast and complex marketplace of programs and services for parents.

This Directory of Programs and Services will launch in early 2017 and will become a trusted destination for all Canadian parents.

Although every child is unique and develops at his or her own pace, understanding the basics about child development will enable you as parents and caregivers to better anticipate and track certain skills a child typically acquires through each age and stage of development.

We Care (formerly Friends of We Care) is a network of Member Sponsor organizations from the Foodservice and Hospitality industries united by the common goal of changing the lives of kids living with disabilities.
Since 1983, We Care and its Member Sponsor organizations: manufacturers, distributors, operators and brokers, as well as cold storage, management and marketing companies have lent their time, money, and their hearts to help send Canadian kids living with disabilities to Easter Seals’ specialized, fully-accessible summer camps.
