Logan is a 22 year old student at a university in Ontario. He is a History major,  minoring in Political Science and Anthropology. Logan also identifies as a person with Asperger’s Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. He received a scholarship and participated in a mentorship program – part of the Easter Seals Workplace Readiness Scholarship & Mentorship Program, funded in part by Sun Life Canada.

“In the future, I hope to become a history professor and perhaps an author. This scholarship and program have helped me immensely to that end. Firstly, it has helped me financially afford my tuition, which can be very expensive, and would otherwise have hindered my ability to attend. For this, I am very grateful. But more so, the mentorship program has helped me in other ways that I could not have foreseen.

As is common with those affected by ASD, I also have generalized anxiety. My Volunteer Mentor [who was paired with me by Easter Seals] has helped me in a very trying time to cope with difficult circumstances and has helped me develop my communication skills in conveying subject matter I have learned, a crucial skill in historical studies, as well as political science. In addition, he has helped me in learning self advocacy by helping me learn to manage my anxiety in relation to asserting myself to authority figures and advocating for my needs and accommodations. These skills are going to be critical to my success, and I will be forever grateful for the time spent helping me learn these necessary skills.

“I am truly appreciative of having had this one-of-a-kind opportunity. Not only have you committed financial assistance, you invested in my personal growth in order to foster a supportive environment that lends itself to success. It has been a pleasure to take part in this program. Thank you.” ~ Logan P.
