GOVERNOR GENERAL OF CANADA EXTENDS VICEREGAL PATRONAGE TO EASTER SEALS CANADA
August 2022 – Easter Seals Canada is proud to announce that that they have been granted Viceregal Patronage from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.
The announcement comes in the midst of a milestone year for the organization as it celebrates 100 years since Easter Seals was first founded in Canada in 1922.
The role of Governor General is steeped in history and tradition. Similarly, Easter Seals has become part of the fabric of Canadian society over the last century through its work towards ensuring that those living with disabilities receive the supports and opportunities they need to be fully included in all aspects of life.
“We are grateful to have been granted the Patronage of Her Excellency. It is a huge honour,” says Dave Starrett, President and CEO of Easter Seals Canada. “As a patron organization, we look forward to supporting Her Excellency with her ongoing focus to promote issues such as reconciliation, mental health, education, and youth. At the same time, we will continue to expand and adapt our work into the next hundred years in order to support the evolving accessibility and inclusion needs and priorities of individuals and families living with disabilities.”
Easter Seals Canada is the national office for Easter Seals, the country’s largest provider of programs and services to individuals with disabilities, which serves over 46,000 individuals directly each year, in addition to supporting families.
