Easter Seals Institute
What is the Easter Seals Institute?
The Easter Seals Institute is a new, online-learning initiative by Easter Seals Canada. This platform will provide opportunities for members of our disability community, partners and supporters to gain and develop new knowledge and skills that will benefit both individuals and their communities.
Background:
In April 2019, Easter Seals Canada and RBC Foundation joined forces to create the Easter Seals – RBC 21st Century Skills and Leadership Program in five provinces, in conjunction with provincial Easter Seals organizations. Building on the success of a similar initiative piloted in 2018, this program aims to empower youth living with disabilities for future success in life and the workplace by providing them with opportunities to participate in skills development and training, coaching, mentoring, work placements and volunteer activities.
The Easter Seals Institute was born out of that program to provide additional opportunities for youth and young adults to continue building on their skills outside of the time that they’ve spent formally with the program.
Looking ahead, Easter Seals Canada plans to develop additional training and certification materials that could be made available to other clients, staff and volunteers, partners and other organizations. For more information, please contact partnerships@easterseals.ca. We will respond within five business days.
Easter Seals – RBC 21st Century Skills Online Training Program description:
The term “21st Century skills” refers to a broad set of knowledge, skills, work habits, and character traits that are believed—by educators, employers, and others—to be critically important to success in today’s information age, particularly in modern careers and workplaces.
This self-directed online course was created with these 21st century skills in mind to aid youth with disabilities, age 15-29, in building employability and life skills from the comfort of their own homes and communities. Topics covered include critical thinking, problem-solving, social perceptiveness and cultural awareness, and information communication and digital literacy in the workplace.
Individuals interested in the course will need to sign-up (at any time) and create an account/profile to access the materials. Once signed up, participants can access the course material any order they wish based on their own individual learning needs and priorities.
The course is a work-in-progress, and new materials will be added over time.
