Easter Seals Celebrates 100 Years of Impact and Being Absolutely UnstoppABLE® in Canada: A Centennial Birthday Celebration from Coast to Coast
Easter Seals is celebrating a milestone birthday: its 100th year of operations in this country. Over the entire course of 2022 in every region of Canada, provincial and territorial organizations will host events bringing together the community, participants, families, sponsors, supporters, and regional stakeholders.
Chief Executive Officer, Dave Starrett, says, “We are a network of provincial and territorial associations across our great country – 10 strong – that have come together to celebrate the 100 years of impact that Easter Seals has had across Canada in communities nationwide. We look forward to toasting our successes while leading the path forward for the next century.”
Highlights of the year include a renewed focus on advocacy at the federal level; a birthday party in Ottawa in spring of 2022 to mark Easter Seals Month in a very special way; and regional awareness gala events and awareness activities. Major public landmarks around the country will be illuminated, and there will be a month devoted to celebrating the role of alumni in Easter Seals history. The organization is focused on embracing digital by design in its approach for the future and will be completing over 9 social and digital media campaigns on several topics, including inclusion and diversity.
As it looks to build towards the next 100 years, Easter Seals will also be launching a school educational program in fall 2022.
“This is a time for celebration, for appreciation and applause, but also a time when we need to be a stronger voice than we have before. COVID-19 has changed our world, and we know that we need to tell our story with greater impact in the years ahead. The pandemic has created challenges for those living with disabilities in our country and we know that being UnstoppABLE®, as our community is, will be a critical part of the next 100 years.”
All COVID protocols will apply to regional events depending on local public health outcomes: events will have digital, hybrid and in person opportunities.
